Nail Avulsion

Nail Avulsion Partial Nail Avulsion with Phenol Matrix Cauterisation

At Podcare, partial nail avulsion with phenol matrix cauterisation is the most reliable and effective method for the definitive treatment of ingrown toenails (onychocryptosis). It is the technique associated with the lowest recurrence rates and the fewest complications, according to international scientific studies.

How is the procedure performed?

Local anaesthesia
The area around the nail is fully anaesthetised so that the patient does not feel pain.

Removal of only the problematic section
The part of the nail that grows into the skin and causes pain or inflammation is removed (partial nail avulsion), together with the corresponding part of the nail matrix.

Phenol cauterisation
Phenol is carefully applied to the nail matrix in order to deactivate the cells that produce that specific part of the nail. In this way, recurrence in the same area is prevented.

Gentle on the tissues – minimal bleeding
Phenol has antiseptic and haemostatic properties, reducing the risk of infection and excessive bleeding.

Fast recovery
As there is no skin incision and therefore no sutures, the patient returns quickly to daily activities. Simple dressing changes and home cleansing are then required for a few days.

Advantages & Scientific Benefits

✔ Success rate above 96%
✔ Very low recurrence compared with other methods
✔ Minimal pain and rapid healing
✔ The healthy growth of the rest of the nail is not affected
✔ Ideal solution for chronic or recurrent ingrown toenails
✔ Excellent aesthetic result
